Paladin leveling isn’t as easy as many paladin leveling guides would like you to believe. Paladins are a complex class that needs quite a lot of thinking to get every drop of efficiency out of it. That is, if you are gearing it to be the best in the World of Warcraft. If you’re just a casual player, Paladins still make for a good character.
The first hurdle to Paladin leveling is, of course, choosing the race. You may want to maximize your character so you can have better chances of performing well throughout the game. However, if you’re not going after efficiency, choosing the race may not be much of an issue for you. That said, it is still nice to have a great looking character even when all you’ll see of it is its mug or backside.
{Paladin Races}
Paladins, in the original World of Warcraft, is an Alliance-only class. However even in the Alliance, only Dwarves and Humans are the choices. With the Burning Crusade, the Blood Elves were added as Horde, thus opening the class to Horde players, as well as the Draenei with the Alliance.
Humans are quite possibly the best race for Paladins. They are pretty much stacked up on Passive Strength, Reputation Gains, Sword and Mace Specialization, Spirit and a few free trinket slots that could help them in PvPing.
If you’re after the way your Paladin looks, the Dwarves present the best option. Other than their looks, they get Stoneform, Cold Resist, a bonus to Find Treasure and a bonus to Guns which is useless since paladins don’t use guns.
The Draenei, in general, are a much better choice than the Dwarves are when it gets down to efficiency. This class has the Gift of Naaru – a HoT spell that costs nothing to use, a bonus on Jewelcrafting, 1% bonus on hit, and Shadow Resistance. If you are planning to become a Retribution Paladin, the extra heal could come in handy. All Draenei Paladins could benefit from the extra 1% hit.
If you’re playing the Paladin the Horde style, you don’t have a choice but to be a Blood Elf. Fortunately, they aren’t bad as Paladins. The Bloods Elves have a bit of advantage over Draenei because of their Arcane Torrent plus they also come with decent boost on mana drain, Enchanting, and Magic Resistance. Not bad, not bad at all.
After choosing the race of your Paladin comes the initial levels of the game. Nothing much to be said here, except that you should finish all your quests and leave nothing behind. This isn’t your first time playing WoW? Well, that rule still sticks. This is the only way you can get the best gears and gold, not to mention it is the only strategy you can really use.
You’ll spend your first 5 levels in your starting town. In here, you must learn as much as you can from your trainer, including abilities and spells before you head off to your second town. In the second town, you will find another trainer who would pretty much do the same thing as the first did. Same rule applies – learn all spells and abilities from your trainer, PLUS learn all the weapon skills you can get. That should only take a few minutes to a few hours so don’t procrastinate and do it.
At this juncture, you will need a Paladin leveling guide that can help you with the quests of levels 10 and beyond. For now, that’s enough to get you started.
